Attendance at Berriew

Improving School Attendance at Berriew C.P. School

At Berriew C.P. School, we believe that every school day matters. Good attendance helps children feel happy, confident, and successful in their learning and friendships.

From the moment learners join our school, we expect them to attend every day unless there is a clear and important reason for absence. Attendance and punctuality are closely monitored each day by the school team.

All learners should arrive on time and be settled in class before the register is completed by 8:50am.

Our Education Welfare Officer (EWO) works closely with the school to support good attendance and monitor absences regularly.

Holidays During Term Time

We strongly discourage holidays during term time, as this can affect learning and progress. If an absence is unauthorised, the EWO may contact families to discuss concerns.

Why Attendance Matters

Good attendance gives children the best chance to:

  • Achieve well in their learning

  • Build friendships and confidence

  • Take part in school activities

  • Develop important life skills and routines

At Berriew C.P. School, we want every child to reach their full potential.

Attendance Concerns

If a learner’s attendance falls below 90%, parents and carers will receive a letter explaining why attendance is important for both academic achievement and social development.

The EWO may also become involved in supporting improved attendance. If attendance does not improve, a further letter may be issued and meetings arranged with the Local Authority and the EWO to discuss next steps and additional support.

Our Attendance Target

Our whole-school attendance target this year is:

95% or above

Together, we can help every child to:

Be Here • Be Ready • Be Their Best
