Ysgol Gynradd Aberriw is an English medium school and follows the Welsh Language Development programme in the Foundation Phase and the Welsh Language programme of study in Key Stage 2.

We have set Welsh sessions each week where Welsh is taught following the Powys scheme of work. In addition, pupils participate in some bilingual lessons, take part in Welsh reading activities and are encouraged to use the Welsh language throughout the school day inside and outside of the classroom. We are also lucky to have Welsh Volunteers come to school and conduct Welsh guided reading sessions once a week.

Cymraeg Campus

 

The Cymraeg Campus Language Charter has been created by ERW Welsh in Education officers and is the first charter specifically created to develop Welsh in English medium schools. The charter consists of three awards - bronze, silver and gold. Each award comprises of ten targets and these targets become more challenging as you progress from efydd (bronze) - to arian (silver) - to aur (gold).

We are delighted to have already achieved Gwobr Efydd and we are currently busy working towards the Gwobr Arian.

Children in Berriew have develpoed a viedo about our local area. They have demonstrated their Welsh speaking skills through having conversations and showing off our great community.
